Rolf Sessions

A Rolf session with HeathAs Structural Integration works to balance the whole body, clients will typically choose to receive the Basic 10 Series, a course of 10 sessions, each building on the benefits of the last and each session having specific goals and intentions. This is a comprehensive treatment of the entire fascial system, bringing the body into greater structural balance and integrity. The Basic 10 can also be a powerfully transformative experience at the psycho-emotional level. As the outside changes, so does the inside!

Once your course of rolf sessions are complete, a break of one to six months is taken in order for the body to ¨digest¨ or integrate all the changes that have occurred. Your body settles into its new structural organization. Sometimes there are some issues in the body that were not completely resolved in the Basic10 Series and post-10 work is possible. Or perhaps a mere tune-up is needed periodically to help keep the body ¨remembering¨ where is up!

The bodywork is conducted on a low-laying massage table. Male clients wear underwear or swimsuit. Female clients wear bra and underwear or a two-piece swimsuit. At the start of every session I will do a structural assessment, which involves you standing, walking and/or sitting for me to see how the session can help you best.

SI sessions can involve firm pressure and gentle movements. It is important that you feel in control of what kind of pressure is being applied in any specific place of your body. I will remind you that the philosophy of ¨more is better¨ does not apply with these structural sessions. I will ask you to focus on your breathing and relax your mind and body, focusing on the area in which we are concentrating. You can experience a myriad of sensations from a pleasurable warm release to momentary discomfort. As long as you are not tensing your body—that is, remaining relaxed—and breathing into the area in question, we are working at an optimal level. You know as soon as your body tenses to let me know and we work with easier pressure or address the area from another angle.

The Rolf Method is not only about re-balancing and loosening your fascia. There is education and homework! I will help you become more aware of your negative habit patterns of movement, so that you can begin to move the body more healthfully, more intelligently, which ultimately helps you maintain the beneficial changes you receive during the hands-on work of the sessions.

The Rolf Method & Detox

If you have Style TV UK, you may have seen me do rolf sessions with clients on detox for the television program The Spa of Embarrassing Illnesses. I have done hundreds of rolf sessions with clients for the past 3 years in detox settings. (See Links).

These detox programs are targeted for people wanting to cleanse and reguvenate their body, not for individuals recovering from substance abuse.

To receive structural sessions during a detox is an amazing experience! You find yourself in a period of self-embrace and this deepens your receptivity to change. The benefits of the work are accelerated and your awareness of transformation is heightened.

During your detox, for maximum benefit and postural improvement, I recommend a mini series of three sessions. This is a thorough work of the outer sleeve of the body and is preparatory work for the deeper sessions later in the Basic 10 Series (see about structural integration), which could be followed-up with another rolf practitioner when you get home. And if home is in Southern Spain or London, you have the option of completing the 10 series with me!
